Recent developments in x-ray detector systems and their application to synchrotron radiation experiments

Ralph Menk
Sincrotrone Trieste

Abstract
Ever since the birth of dedicated synchrotron sources there has been a considerable mismatch between the beam line performance and the ability of the x-ray detection system to exploit it. It is, therefore, very often the detection device that limits the final data quality. However, it will be illustrated that close cooperation between beam line scientists and detector developers is a unique way to overcome these problems. Several detector systems that were developed in such a frame of joint forces will be discussed. Their potential impact on further exploitation of modern synchrotron facilities will be demonstrated by means of examples from the field of medical imaging, x-ray holography and diffraction experiments.
