ABSTRACT
The lecture will describe the use of relative partial photoionization
cross sections (RPPICS) in characterising the orbital structure of transition
metal molecules. Key features of cross sections, such delayed maxima, Cooper
minima and giant resonances, will be illustrated and their origin explained.
Their use in assigning photoelectron bands and investigating covalency
in complexes will be exemplified by a wide range of examples from both
classical transition metal complexes and organometallics.
