Abstract
Recent results, using a multi-method approach, from the oxygen interaction
with Rh and Pd surfaces at oxygen pressures in the 10-10 to 103 mbar range
and temperatures up to 1000 K will be presented. We will show that
so-called surface oxides form prior to the onset of thicker bulk oxide
formation,
and that the presence of a surface oxide kinetically hinders the formation
of the respective bulk oxide.
