Experiments of nonlinear dynamics in class B lasers

Abstract
After a general introduction on the origin and the interest of
studies of nonlinear dynamics in laser systems, I will focus on the
case of class B lasers. In this context, I will discuss different setups
which may induce irregular or chaotic dynamics on the laser.
In particular, I will present two experiments that have been performed
at Istituto Nazionale di Ottica Applicata on a CO2 laser. I will first
show experiments where the chaotic behaviour is induced by a feedback
and by an external periodic modulation. Then, I will present an experimental
study on the transient competition between orthogonal polarized fields
in an isotropic laser.
