STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY IN NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES

Annalisa Pastore
National Institute for Medical Research, The Ridgeway, London (UK)

Abstract
An increasing number of neurodegenerative pathologies, which include Alzheimer\'s, Parkinson\'s and Huntington\'s diseases, prion encephalopathies, and cystic fibrosis, have been associated with protein aggregation and misfolding. Structural biology has proven to be instrumental in allowing us to start understanding some of the physical causes that trigger protein aggregation and to design ways to prevent it. In my talk, I shall discuss specific examples and show the importance of implementing new biophysical and bioinformatic tools to the study of aberrant aggregation.
